Discover the “City of Eleven Lakes”: A Grand Finale at Olsztyn Castle

After days of intensive clinical sessions and networking, it’s time to step out of the lecture hall and into the history of Warmia. For the final day of our conference, we invite you to breathe in the fresh air of Olsztyn—a city where Gothic brickwork meets the tranquil beauty of nature.

The Heart of Warmia

Olsztyn is not your typical regional capital. Known as the “City of Eleven Lakes,” it offers a unique landscape where urban life is seamlessly integrated with forests and water. It’s a place that encourages a slower pace, making it the perfect backdrop to reflect on the insights gained during the conference.

Visit at Olsztyn Castle: Walking in the Footsteps of a Genius

The highlight of our final day is a guided tour of the Olsztyn Castle (the Castle of the Warmian Cathedral Chapter). This 14th-century Gothic fortress isn’t just a monument; it was once the home and workplace of Nicolaus Copernicus.

While you might know him for “stopping the sun and moving the earth,” here you can see his tangible legacy:

  • The Astronomical Table: On the gallery wall, you’ll find the world’s only surviving astronomical instrument hand-drawn by Copernicus himself.
  • Gothic Grandeur: Explore the stunning crystal vaults and the defensive architecture that has stood the test of time.
  • The Resident “Baby”: Keep an eye out for the “Prussian Baby” (baba pruska) in the courtyard—mysterious stone statues left behind by the region’s ancient inhabitants.
